EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION GRANT

External Wall Insulation

External Wall Insulation surrounds the outside of your home with an insulated, water-resistant layer that not only improves energy efficiency but also gives your home an enhanced appearance. External Wall Insulation will slow down the rate at which the heat passes through the walls, keeping the warmth inside your home for longer.

External wall insulation is a layer of insulation fixed to the outside walls of your home and covered in a special type of plaster or cladding. Houses built before 1920s usually have solid rather than cavity walls. Solid walls tend to let more heat escape from the home than cavity walls.

External wall insulation helps reduce the heat travelling through your home walls helping you reduce your fuel bills and helping to make your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer – the new weatherproof coating can help enhance the look of your home.

HOW DOES THE INSULATION WORK?

By insulating your external walls, a thermal barrier is created. This barrier prevents heat escaping from the room. At the same time, it prevents unwanted heat entering the room. This is similar to the way a flask keeps drinks hot or cold.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

EWI can cost anything from ÂŁ4,000 for smaller terraced properties to ÂŁ14,000+ for larger detached homes. Prices are dependent on the size of your house and how many walls you need insulating.

CAN I GET A GRANT FOR EWI?

There is funding available for EWI on domestic properties via the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) programme. Depending on your situation you may qualify for a grant.

Homeowners or private renting tenants that receive certain state benefits (such as income support, tax credits or pension guarantee credit) can qualify for funding through the Government’s ECO programme. The amount of funding available is calculated by how much money an average household (of the same type) would save on fuel bills by having EWI fitted. ECO funding will only cover a small cost of the installation.
